"The Glorious Failure" is a factual account of the post-Civil War era, known as the Reconstruction, in South Carolina and the men who governed the state. The book primarily describes the rise and fall of Robert Brown Elliot, a black congressman and South Carolina Attorney General. Co-sponsored by the Afro-American Institute and Women in Politics, the book review was conducted by Elma Lewis, director of the National Center for American Artists."
