INTRODUCTION For the purpose ot gathering material for this project, we, Sharon Foster and Lee Bowman, drove to Washington, Arkansas, which is located about 15 miles from Hope, Arkansas, and interrlewed. Miss Mamie Bell Holt, a retired school teacher ot Hope who now 1ervea as the hostess tor the TaTem in Washington. This interrlew waa moat educa­tional tor Miss Holt has studied the histor)" ot Washington and was able to give us all or the important historical background Ol'l Wash­ington. Afterwards she gave us a tour ot the Tavern, showing us all ot the antique turniture, old clothing, etc., that baa been collected tor display, and then proTided us with postcards and pamphlets about Washington. We made another trip to Washington to interTiew the Trimble sisters, Mrs. J.A. Wilson and Mrs. Butler, who now reside in their old historical Trimble home. Mrs. Wilson entertained us with humorous tales and actual incident. 11 that occurred in Washington along with interesting intormation about the Trimble holll9.
