Description

This file contains tobacco schedules for Rockingham County, North Carolina, and related correspondence and documentation submitted by tobacco farmers. Of special note are several sales receipts from tobacco warehouses sent by Louis Graham of Reidsville, Enumeration District 168, Farm 173. Mr. Graham, whose accompanying letter described himself as a "Colard [sic, colored, African American] man," said he didn't know what the tobacco was used for, so he sent some bills of sales so "that you may see for your self [sic]." The receipts are from the Leader Warehouse (Frank Pinnix, J. H. Grogan, and Jack Pinnix), Reidsville North Carolina, October 1, 1903; Banner Warehouse (W. T. Fowlkes, J. W. Nunn, and W. C. Turner), Danville Virginia, November 22, 1906; Leader Warehouse (Jack Pinnix and J. H. Grogan), Reidsville, North Carolina, March 2, 1907; Holland's Warehouse (W. B. Guerrant and H. [?] C. Swanson), Danville, Virginia, November 24, 1909; and Pinnix's Warehouse (J. S. Pinnix), Reidsville, North Carolina, October 6, 1910.
