voice Mrs. Lena Crutcher N. Thompson Street Springdale, Ark. February 14, 1951 Reel 90, Item 2 The Gold Banjo (Old Joe Clark) Learned from Negro farm hands near Nashville and McMinnville, Tennessee. I had a banjo made of gold; The strings were made of twine; And the only tune that I could play Was "I Wish That Gal Was Mine." And I wish that gal was mine, And I wish that gal was mine; And the only tune that I could play Was "I Wish That Gal Was Mine." My father built a chicken-coop, Sixteen stories high; And every chicken in that coop Was a-made in chicken pie. Collected by Irene Carlisle Transcribed by Mary C.
