Description

This interview opens with Milton Hartoum of Brazil reading an excerpt from his novel, The Tree of the Seventh Heaven. He then explains that the novel is based on his real-life family who moved to Brazil from Lebanon. He goes on to explain his belief that literature deals with the past as an investigation of a deep truth. Hartoum describes the multicultural nature of Brazilian society and briefly discusses teaching Brazilian and Latin American literature at Berkeley.
