American Red Cross photo by Gorsky

Description

Official Red Cross photograph of Vivian Collier, a Red Cross worker in Paris, March 1946. The photograph contained the following caption: "Paris, France, -- ALWAYS ON DUTY -- 'Wherever I went in my Red Cross uniform, the soliders would ask me to sing for them, so even when I took a vacation I was always on duty because I never refused a request for music,' said attractive soprano Vivian Collier as she planned to return to the States after a year as an overseas club worker with the American Red Cross. Miss Collier, whose home is Washington, D.C., where her husband, S.A. Douglas, is a vocational guidance counsellor in the public schools, sang for GIs in tents, theaters, hospitals, Red Cross clubs, and even on trains, buses and airplanes all over Europe. She is returning to take her master's degree in music at Catholic University and will begin a concert tour in the fall." This photo was sent to newspapers in the United States, including the California Eagle.
