Description
The group was led by Mrs. Bertha D. Howard; they sang Christmas carols in the homes of nine ill or shut-in people the day this photograph was shot. Mrs. Howard's daughter, Southern Courier staffer Barbara Howard Flowers, is singing on the far right. The image was used in the article and photo spread "Black Christmas," which appeared on pages 2 and 3 of The Southern Courier for December 30-31, 1967. The issue is available online (not on the ADAH website): http://www.southerncourier.org/low-res/Vol3_No53_1967_12_30.pdf
