Correspondence includes original postage stamp.Holograph, signed.May's handwriting near the address reads, "Rec'd June 14, 1855. Ans'd [June] 19, [1855]."Title supplied by cataloger.Steinthal rejoices over the Senate vote confirming the dismissal of Judge Edward Greely Loring. He says that Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman presided over a meeting at which she explained the hold of the slave powers on the American clergy and that the Western Christian Union passed a resolution "congratulating the heroes of the Burns agitation on their triumphant discharge by the District Court of Massachusetts." Steinthal criticizes the attitude of the "National Anti-Slavery Standard" towards Lajos Kossuth. He tells May that he plans to go to Germany with Parker Pillsbury and Francis Bishop and that he will try to do something there for the abolition cause.
