Deed of manumission dated March 15, 1841 by Andrew Ellicott, Jr. of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland for his Negro man named Jacob Madden. This was done for the consideration of $200. Witnessed by James Fergusson, Jr., Richard Dorsey, Jr., and Justice of the Peace Thomas Hanson Belt on March 15 and recorded by Baltimore County, Maryland clerk Thomas Kell on March 20, and finally recorded by the late clerk Jno. L. (John L.) Moore of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County on March 22, the document identifies Jacob Madden as a Negro man age 43 years. (Editor's note: During this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851. Blank page 3 was not scanned and thus is not included.)
