Description

Blueprint survey with metes and bounds of Andrew Jackson's historic Hermitage lands, totalling 500 acres. Shows the residence, Jackson's tomb, a Confederate cemetery, and the Confederate Veterans' Home. The annotated survey shows the acreage of each parcel of land, as well as roads, and water pipelines. Additional structures included are the original home of the Jacksons, the Old Hickory store, church, slave quarters, and smokehouse.The Hermitage was the home of Andrew Jackson and his wife, Rachel Donelson Jackson. The main residence was constructed in 1821, with many renovations thereafter. After Jackson's death in 1845, the property passed to his son, Andrew Jackson Jr. Indebted, Jackson Jr. sold the estate to the State of Tennessee in 1856, who controlled it until 1889, when they gave it to the Ladies' Hermitage Association to preserve. The Ladies' Hermitage Association still owns and runs the estate.
