Description

Bill of sale dated March 21, 1831 for a mulatto boy named William sold by Amos Dorsey and Charles G. Worthington, executors of the estate of the late Mary Dorsey of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, to John S. Williams. The sale is in the amount of $57. Witnessed by Walter W. Waters, the document states that William, a mulatto boy age 4 years 6 months who was the son of a mulatto girl named Harriet, will be entitled to his freedom on October 24, 1851, based on a previous bill of sale dated October 29, 1824 by Andrew Adgate, Henrietta Dorsey, and Amos Dorsey to Amos Dorsey, which was previously recorded in Baltimore County on October 29, 1824 in liber W. G. number 32 folio 326. (Editor's note: Why the record for the Howard District of Anne Arundel County is not signed is not known. In 1845, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851.)
