Description

Collected by Mary Celestia Parler; Transcribed by Neil Byer Adgie Lee Robinson Newport, Ark. April 13, 1955 Reel 210, Item 2 Willie's New Car ALR: Then he got him another car. It was an old, raggedy truck. And it kind of looked like a storm coming. And the children went out to see it, what was happening. And it was a old truck. He come on in with the thing, and so that Sunday he carried us out in the country. The old thing was smoking so we had to hang our head out the window. And I had to put the baby outside so he wouldn't get...filled up with smoke. So we broke down. The thing just give out. And one of my friends picked us up. And while Willie was going somebody fixed the car. But they put us in a better car, and we was driving on. So when we got home— a friend was driving the car— well, so what Willie, when we got home, he wanted to know who was driving the truck. So I said, "I drove the truck. Who do you think?" To keep him from getting mad at the other man.... Funding for digitization provided by the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Happy Hollow Foundation.
