Deed of manumission dated September 1, 1847 by Betsey Nugent, a free woman of color of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland for her daughter Harriet purchased from Rezin B. Simpson for $260 on July 29, 1845, with funds partially provided by George Bond, whom she later repaid, as witnessed on the receipt dated January 3, 1846. Witnessed by E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden, H. H. Pue, and Justice of the Peace O. D. Hastings and recorded by district clerk E. P. (Edwin Parsons) Hayden on September 1, 1847, the manumission document gives Harriet's age as 19 years.
