Description

Extract of letter handwritten by unknown person. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown. At Francis Jackson's request, Anne Warren Weston went to ask Mrs. [E.L.C.] Follen to go with her to Mr. Wilkins "to propitiate him about Faneuil Hall." According to Mr. Jackson, Mr. Wilkins said: "the fancy goods dealers were opposed to our having it, on the ground that we undersold them..." Anne did well in collecting money for the Liberty Bell. "The Joneses are shrieking for money at the West, but I do not see that the American society can aid them tho we will if we can after the Fair." Anne suggests that "if there was a spare hundred of [E.S.] Abdy's money," Mrs. Maria W. Chapman might give it to them. She describes articles for sale in the fair. Also, includes an envelope, which may have contained the original manuscript. The envelope is addressed to: "Miss Caroline Weston, Messrs Greene & Co., Place St. George, Paris." In upper left corner, it is marked "Hibernia." It is postmarked 29 Nov. 1848.
