LeMaxie Glover was born around 1918, and grew up in Toledo, having attended Macomber and Libbey High Schools. He served in the navy during World War ll. He was married with three children and working as a railroad fireman when he decided to become an artist at the age of 34. He earned his bachelor of education from the University of Toledo in 1954, then his master of fine arts from Cranbrook in 1955. He became the first black instructor at Cranbrook following his graduation but returned to Toledo to teach art at Woodward until 1968. That year he transferred to Scott High School and taught there until his retirement in 1981 after 25 years. His work has been exhibited at numerous museums and galleries, and he was also a charter member of the Toledo Museum of Art Minority Advisory Commitee, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. Mr. Glover was also an active member at St. Paul's Baptist Church. This interview with his family was taken after his death in Toledo on July 8, 1984.
