A handwritten letter written on the back and front of Southland letterhead featuring an image of Southland College and a listing of the faculty. "The school is prosperous, good work is going on." The awareness of the ever-present issues related to race at Southland are alluded to in this letter. A student is described as "nearly white." OFFICE of Southland College ... Helena, Ark., 2/7, 1895 Joseph Dickinson; Dear friend; I enclose my Report for 1st Month. also also a Financial Statement for 24 [Mo.] 1st 1895. Thy letter giving acct. of Board Meeting was very interesting [to] me. I think the suggestion of a visit to the [Dr.] Meetings by D. Drew either before the Yearly Meeting or just afterward a good one. We should also be thanful for a visit of [b.] Francisco & E. Bellis about 4th Mo. 14th, Anniversary Day. The weather is bad, roads are bad, people poorly clad, and it would not have been favorable for the outside poeple now. But on the other hand it is now an opportune time for our in side pupils. We felt that the time had come for some religious work so we have been holding prayor meetings in...
