Description

A woman from Sebastian County, Arkansas, swore loyalty to the United States November 21, 1865. Her first name was Mary. The last name is largely illegible but may be Luesenbury. Record of a female Confederate pledging allegiance to the United States. 9 Amnesty Oath, under Proclamation of the President of the United Stated, dated May 29th, 1865. Van Buren, Ark., November 21, 1865. I Mary [Luesenbery] of Sebastian County, State of Arkansas, do solemnly swear, in the presence of Almighty God, that I will henceforth faithfully support, protect and defend the Constiti- tion of the United States, and the Union of States thereunder : and that I will, in like manner, abide by and faithfully support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion, with reference to the emancipation of slaves---so help me God.
