Chapman, William R
Description
Holograph, signed.William R. Chapman asks what Maria Weston Chapman is going to do with the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society. He mentions A. A. Phelps, C. T. Torrey, the New Organization, and the woman question. He does not see how Torrey and Phelps can argue the woman question without encouraging a demand for equal rights, especially since the publication of Right and Wrong in Massachusetts. He discusses the anti-slavery situation and the prospects of the New Society in New Haven. He thinks the New Organizations should be ignored. He mentions Amistad mutineers and says that they have excited much interest. He notes Leonard Bacon's attack on the principles of non-resistance. Tells about a debate at a theological seminary on the subject of immediate emancipation, presided over by Dr. Taylor. Invites William Lloyd Garrison to visit the theological seminary.
