Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper with an embossed logo in the head- spine corner of the first page showing a flower surrounded in an oval. Also in the head- spine corner, a small checkmark and the number "43" are both recorded in pencil. Above the first line of the letter, in the head- fore corner, there is a purple circular stamp enclosing the words, "Garrison MSS." On the verso, the letter is addressed to [William] Loyd Garrison Boston 25 Corn Hill Mass" and bears an orange circular stamp that contains the words, "Forwarded by Hale & Co. from Northampton." Adjacent to the delivery information, towards the spine side of the page, is the remnant of a red seal.Former slave Stephen C. Rush writes to William Lloyd Garrison sending a piece for the Liberator in which he states, "We are here to ... denounce slavery. To assert the right of man and to testify against oppression." Rush also asserts that "liberty is liberty wherever found right is right and wrong is wrong between men of all countries complexions and conditions alike." He also, "look[s] for the day when the slaveholding system will be denounced as it diserves to be by the grate mass of the peoples ..." Before ending the letter, Rush grants Garrison permission to edit his work. The letter is signed
