Various scenes of downtown Bowman and the grade school. Donated by Betty Hodgson Seymour, who appears in the film with her father, the principal of the grade school. They are seen together as they exit the school. Also in the film is Ed Hurd [Herd?] an African American man from the community who dances for the camera. This film was preserved by the Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection.Segment one: Everyday Life, 0:01. Title screen stating University of Georgia "1938 Bowman, Georgia" and film specifics. Movie reel countdown. Man sitting on blocks, standing outside farm building. Men walking around farm and mill-like area. Man and young girl drive by on horse and cart. Man carries iron furniture piece in a wheelbarrow. Men pose for the camera. Women pose for the camera. Man walks by store with window painted advertising fresh pork and beef and sign: "Coca-Cola." Students walk out of school carrying their books. People stand in front of a building with advertisements for Coca-Cola on it, and City Barber Shop painted on a window at the end. A child poses in the street. Older students walk out of school carrying their books, then pose for the camera before boarding school buses. Students board buses. People work on the outside of a building, and pose for the camera. Sign: "Bowman." Man maneuvers a large parcel of cotton. Girls pose smiling together. Segment two: Busy Stretch of Town, 8:49. Two young men drive a horse and cart down the street....
