The Gay Minstrel Troupe 1887 See C.F. Davis: History of Monrovia & Duarte 1938, Also "Excerpts" p 387 Caption: "When Monrovia was but a year old and the paint still fresh on the La Vista Grande Hotel [sic], Monrovians got up a minstrel show that was a honey, and to commemorate the occasion the gay minstrels, in silk hats and frock coats, had their picture taken in front of the Hotel. That old picture, made over fifty years ago, has come down to us." (From History of Monrovia & Duarte, Charles F.
