Description
Servicemen of various Quartermaster (QM) Service Companies such as the 980th and 569th loading baskets of tin cans into freight car at Camp Atterbury, Indiana during World War II (No. 157 B). This load of flattened tin cans comprised approximately 40,000 pounds sent to mills for "de-tinning" so the salvaged tin could be used to manufacture war materials (from "Camp Crier" newspaper, October 22, 1943, p. 1).
