Description

Racist caricature of an African American woman purchasing a pair of "flesh coloured silk stockings" in a hosiery store from a well-dressed white male sales clerk with a French accent. Depicts the woman standing at the counter in a bright pink floral patterned dress, and a huge blue hat adorned with numerous yellow flowers and a long yellow ribbon. She uses her monocle to inspect the gray colored stockings that the clerk is holding and which he has declared are of "de first qualite!" Another well-dressed African American woman with a huge hat is seen in the doorway of the shop.
