Description

Over the years, many minority women have worked in Seattle's laundry and dry cleaning industries. This photo, taken around 1949, shows two women working in a commercial laundry. The African American woman at the right is reaching into a large washing machine. The woman at the left is removing clothing from an extractor, which spins clothing at high speed to remove the water.
