Description

This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The program features a retrospective of past programs. The program includes a segments featuring the Georgia Sea Island Singers; folk music trio Elise Witt and Small Family Orchestra; Tim Arkansas, a folk singer who sings about the Summerhill neighborhood of Atlanta; folk singer and Georgia Tech professor Bud Foote; a Native American-themed play called "Image Makers" that played in an Atlanta theater; Alice Parker and her opera titled "Singers Glen", and blues pianist Willy Lee Perryman, known as "Piano Red." The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis."Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis.
