Bill of sale dated February 2, 1854 for a Negro slave named Mary Jane sold by John S. and Rachel Tyson to Anna Maria Hopkins, all of Howard County, Maryland. The sale is in the amount of $100. Witnessed by E. A. Talbott and Justice of the Peace E. C. Lyons and recorded by Howard County clerk W. H. Worthington, the document specifies that Mary Jane (no other identity given) will serve for a term of one year ending on February 6, 1855, when she will be free.
