Description

In this MFDP-related folder, there's a post-1964 Democratic National Convention plea for continued northern support for the MFDP and its goals, and an explanation of its defeated convention challenge and its hopes for the November 1964 Freedom Vote and the Freedom Primers. SNCC chair John Lewis has a letter endorsing and urging support for the MFDP's congressional challenge in April 1965. There's a pamphlet announcing an MFDP Conference on Free Elections to be held in Jackson, Mississippi, in April 1964. Steve Max's article on the MFDP and "recent developments" is also here. There are a blank petition and other documents urging support for the 1965 congressional challenge (objections to the seating of white Mississippians in Congress when African Americans hadn't been allowed to vote in the election), and a letter thanking Lucile Montgomery and Marge Benton for being guarantors of the performance of "In White America" in Willmette, Illinois. A pamphlet, "What Are the Freedom Democratic
