Description

Photograph taken looking south from Mulberry Street at a fallen tree blocking the 300 block North Charles Street in Baltimore, Maryland. On the west (right) side of the street, a crowd of onlookers watches as two African American men standing on the center of the fallen tree trunk assess the situation. Although the tree fell on electric lines along the east side of the street, no lines were torn down. In the foreground on the east (left) side of the street is a sign reading Pending, Adams Green Grocery. High on the right side of the street, a few buildings down from where the tree has fallen, is a sign that advertises the Y.M.C.A. (Young Men’s Christian Association). Although there are streetcar tracks embedded in the cobblestone roadway, the tree effectively eliminated service that day. (Negative provided courtesy of W. Bryant Tyrrell.)
