Description

Manrique served as the governor of Spanish West Florida from 1813 to 1815. In the letter he responds to the Indian's recent request for provisions, which he submitted to a military commander in Cuba; Manrique assures him that that the goods will be supplied, but he urges him to be patient: "Whenever these are come I shall immediately let you know it...but until then I advise you as Brothers not to come as the store houses at present are empty...the Captain General knows all this, he knows my situation and wants, he is a firm friend to your nation, and of course I confidently expect he will shortly send me the necessary supplies." He also mentions "a runaway Negro which put you to much trouble." A transcription is included.
