Connecticut. General Assembly
Description
The Joint Select Committee reports it will only respond to resolutions from other states if they apply to the war with Mexico, opposes extension of slavery into the territories and the relocation of the border of Texas to the Rio Grande, and asserts that Congress has the right to prohibit slavery. The file also includes resolutions from other states about abolishing slavery in Washington DC, excluding slavery from Oregon Territory, and the power of the Federal government. In addition, there are documents related to a proposed amendment to the Connecticut Constitution about voting rights, and a protest against the power contained in a charter for the New York & Boston Railroad and a commendation to Horace Wells who first used nitrous oxide in a dental procedure.
