Zack Clayton (1921-1997) played baseball for the Negro Leagues and basketball professionally for the New York Renaissance, the first all-Black professional African American owned basketball team. He became the first African American chairman of the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission. As a boxing referee he became the first African American to referee a world title fight in 1952, and was widely known for his refereeing of the famous 1974 Muhammed Ali vs George Foreman fight. Clayton was also a 1993 inductee to the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission. Charles Cooper (1907-1980) attended and played sports at Philadelphia Central High School. He also played professionally for the Philadelphia Giants (1926-1929), Philadelphia Saints, and New York Renaissance (1930s); leading the Renaissance to a 1939 World Professional Tournament Title.
