Poor People's Corporation

Description

This folder, with letters mostly from Jane Adams dating from October-December 1964, continues with her tasks of trying to gather information about southern agriculture and cooperatives--particularly, small farmers, tenant farmers, and sharecroppers--and about federal programs for the poor and of trying to organize a conference on southern agriculture to be held in late 1964, which was later cancelled. The most interesting letters are a November 7, 1964, one from Henry Anderson about the parallels and differences between California and Mississippi agricultural workers, and a November 3, 1964, one from Anne Draper on the need for small farmers to organize themselves as unions rather than wait for "palliative" help through federal poverty programs.
