Description

Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Esther Moore writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to hearing that Maria "at the memorable epoch in Phila," the riot in Pennsylvania Hall in 1838. She complains that "the quakers are accomplaces [sic] in this bloody carrying on in Newburyport jail." She mentions also Mary Cox and her sister Susan who have been "as cruelly treated (except the jail) as [Thomas Parnell] Beach, [Stephen Symonds] Foster & others. She discourages on the poisonous influence of the love of praise. Through "dear [Lydia] Maria Child she who makes everybody love her." She has become acquainted with Maria and others "of the worthy Sister band."
