Jennings, Jane

Description

Holograph, signed.Jane Jennings says that the contributions (to the Boston anti-slavery fair) are less than they would have been if it were not for the distress among the working people. Also, contributions would have been more "if Frederick Douglass and Mr. Garrison had come as we hoped." Douglass has made "many warm and affection[ate] friends in this city." A bazaar is to be held for the relief of the poor. She discusses the failure of the potato crop. Jane Jennings gives her ideas on the future influence for good of the lives of abolitionists, which may be greater than the evil done by slavery. Also with the same Call No. Ms.A.9.2 v.22, p.113, is a "List of articles in the Box sent from Bristol, [England], Oct. 31."
