Holograph, signed.Mrs. Frances H. Drake sends a few articles for the fair. She characterizes the abolitionists in the town as some of them for political action, a few are for moral suasion, "some are for mute suasion," that is "expediency." She mentions that Mrs. L. L. Walker and Mr. Isaac Smith, who finance the lecturers, are active in zeal and generosity. Two years ago, at the suggestion of Abby Kelley, an Anti-Slavery Sewing Society was formed, which worked for the American Anti-Slavery Society. Soon, however, they were called upon to change their constitution in the interest of the New Organization, whereupon Frances H. Drake withdrew, preferring to work "singly and alone, for the old school."In the postscript, Mrs. Frances H. Drake says to tell Miss Mary Willey that Mr. Smith regrets that Ladies Society cannot contribute articles to the fair since they have directed their charity in another channel.
