Georgina Falú Leonela Medina Baez

Description

Dr. Falú describes what does it mean for her to be Afro-Puerto Rican which she defines as being born in Puerto Rico and having African descend. She asserts that the concept of Afro-Puerto Rican is not “spell out” because of the denial of the African roots and the negative connotation given to the African history and heritage. Her ‘awakening’ regarding her African background emerged in the United States when she started to study scholars, such as Yosef Ben-Jochannan, who research and document African history.
