ENHANCING MOTIVATION 2 Acknowledgements I would first like to thank the members of my committee for their help and support: Dr. Stewart for all of her support, help and patience during the course of this project as well as Dr. Mower and Ms. Hauser. I would like to express appreciation to my administration, Mr. Ernest Broderick and Mrs. Allison Banks for their support during the course of this program. I cannot ignore those who pushed me to this point. I am forever grateful for my angel mother who chose to be a single mother, despite the fears and uncertainty that came with single motherhood. I am grateful that she pushed me to get first a college degree, and then to obtain a master’s degree so that I would never have to face the uncertainty that she did. Thank you for always believing in me and being there when I needed you. Thank you to my Grandma Nelson, though she is no longer with me, she fulfilled the role of a second parent for me, and she too pushed me, and gave me thBuilding motivation is an essential characteristic of teaching reading. Children who are motivated to read more will engage in reading more frequently, and children who read more frequently will naturally practice the essential mechanical attributes of reading and will thereby become more capable and competent readers.
