Artist John McCrady, who was born and reared in southern Mississippi and Louisiana, and who painted the acclaimed Portrait of a Negro, posed for this image in 1937. His terrier Pieter Breughel is also shown in the photograph. This image appeared in Life magazine on October 18, 1937.
