Th background is broken up into 4 sections of color: red, green, yellow, and blue. Splayed around her are strokes of various colors. Above her is the title "the colored museum a play" in a jaggedd design where "the" is verticle, "colored museum" is centered between the t and h of "the" horizontally, and "a play" is placed vertically under the "u" from "museum." At the bottom, in white, is the name of the author. The spine shows the name of the author, the title of the book, and the Grove Press colophone.The back cover depicts a large yellow circle, on pink ground, with printed text in the center.
