Description

In this presentation, recorded on an unspecified date in 1985, Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III argues that African American students, particularly young males, are not being taught about real heroes of African descent. Hilliard focuses his remarks on the African origins of Ancient Egypt, the African culture and roots of Caribbean figures, such as Marcus Garvey and Toussaint Louverture, and the achievement of men of African descent throughout the world. He laments that more young African Americans are not taught about Paul Robeson, W.E.B. Dubois, and other “multiple geniuses.” The recording closes with a question and answer session focusing on student achievement.
