Description

The blue and white poster features a drawing of a large robed sculptural figure. The robe sleeve is covered with text that reads, "Confucius & Chiang's regime." There is a crack on the bottom, making the sculpture appear to tip over. At the bottom of the sculpture there is text that reads, "All women are the same as slaves; they should be kept at a distance. Master and slave are like the wind and grass; when one blows the other bows. The common people should be directed to do things but not made to comprehend them." There is a group of protesters gathered at the base of the sculpture. The main protester is holding up papers and pointing at three men; two are posed with their heads down, while the third men appear as a guard. The text states, "Committee for True Representation of China, Rally: Sunday June 30, 1974 1:00 P.M., Picket: Tuesday July 2, 1974 10:00 A.M., Location: Proposed park next to Overfelt Botanical Gardens McKee Road near Jackson Avenue in San Jose. Principles of the Committee: 1. We oppose the statue that represents the oppressive ideology of Confucianism. 2. We oppose the Chiang regime's sponsorship of the Chinese Cultural Park and feel that there are other alternatives for its use. 3. We support normalization of relations between the People's Republic of China and the United States."
