Montgomery, AlabamaMy life has been good. It has been challenging. It has been filled with purpose, work, service, love and faith. There has been joy in working with people, especially children, parents and teachers.Katherine J. Barr, a former director of the Los Angeles Urban League. She is now deceased.My mother, Omega Brock, Mrs. Merrifield who gave me a scholarship through Atlanta University Laboratory High School and Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. The teachers at Spelman College. My church, St. Mark African Methodist Episcopalian in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.My vision for Milwaukee is that it continues in its goal of making Milwaukee a safe, healthy environment. I want Milwaukee to continue growing in its efforts to have good schools, employment and adequate child care. I want an environment that is continuing to be devoid of racism, where all people regardless of their color or religious preference will continue to walk with love, pride, dignity and unity.Director - Milwaukee Public Schools Head Start program; Teacher; Writer/Poet; 3 schools named in her honor (Starms Early Childhood Center, Starms Monumental Baptist Early Childhood Center, and Starms Discovery Learning Center); first living person after whom a Milwaukee Public School has been named. - 2004 Honorary Doctorate in Public Service - University of Wisconsin Milwaukee
