Description
A printed statement issued by the Board of Home Missions outlining the rationale for closing Southland Institute. The production of this formal printed statement underscores the importance of the Southland Institute. Hundreds of students had been educated and cared for at the rural edge of Arkansas. For seventy years, Phillips County residents had become accustomed to the presence of the residents and financial impact of the institution. The Quakers' continued commitment to their mission throughout these years is evident. "During these years of difficult struggle since 1920, the Southland Committee has been seriously studying the Race problem in the South and the relation of Southland Institute thereto."
