Students United for Racial Equality (SURE) was organized last month by several MU sociology students. Its constitution, which the student senate will vote on Wednesday, says SURE was organized “to promote justice in interracial relations” and will “attempt to achieve this purpose by involvement of the university community in study and other activities …” SURE will work with the Northcott Neighborhood house, a social welfare center on the near north side. It will help the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) in the south by sending students to work in Alabama. Several of the group’s leaders were involved in the demonstration last Tuesday at the Milwaukee school board meeting.
