Description

From his Fountain City, Indiana home, Levi Coffin and his wife Catharine helped so many slaves escape north to Canada and freedom that their home has been referred to as "Grand Central Station." The Coffins were well known in the abolitionist community for their activism. Fellow abolitionist and author Harriet Beecher Stowe, recounted Eliza Harris’ experiences in Fountain City in the book "Uncle Tom’s Cabin".
