Bruner, Charlotte H.

Description

Professor Emeritus from Iowa State, Charlotte Bruner, discusses her two anthologies of African women writers. She discusses what lead to her interest in African women authors, and the similarities and differences between women authors across the African continent. Bruner also states that the authors in her latest anthology, The Heinemann Book of African Women's Writing, seem to have greater confidence than the authors featured in her first anthology. Finally, she says that many of the stories within the anthologies came in manuscript form and are unavailable elsewhere. Peter Nazareth, a native of Uganda, is a Professor of English and African-American World Studies at the University of Iowa. Since 1974, he has been advisor to the University's International Writing Program, which brings writers from around the world to the University of Iowa for semester-long residencies. Over the span of more than thirty years, Nazareth has recorded interviews, seminars, and panel discussions with IWP writers conducted in various settings, including "Humanities at Iowa", a 1980s radio show that aired on WSUI/KSUI.
