Freeman, Russ (Quaker)

Description

Appreciates Foote's article "American refugees": "The slow and insidious process of the disintegration of democratic virtues -- is seldom seen and understood by those intellectuals and religionists who are preoccupied with fear and protectiveness for themselves and with growing hatred for the Germans and the Japanese." Considered study at Columbia for post-war administration work, and has been offered a post with the Pacifist Research Bureau, but will stay with CPS for now. "This may be false heroics; maybe the compromises are too great." Camp affairs: "One of our best men (Bob Brewster) deteriorated into schizophrenia and was institutionalized"; 44 day hunger strike; the "Negro issue in the park has had some innings."
