Flyer distributed at Marquette in May 1970 after the Kent State shootings.WHY WE STRIKE KENT STATE On Monday afternoon, May 4, four students were shot and killed, at Kent State University. The students were shot by members of the National Guard who had been orderd onto the campus "in order to protect property and lives." Students were protesting President Nixon's employment of U.S. forces in Cambodia and ROTC on campus. As harsh and prejudged as it might seem, the students were murdered. The only forthcoming report from the Guard indicates that the Guard fired In response to sniper fire. The Guard suggests that there was a sniper on a rooftop in the area And that Highway Patrol denies making such a report. Furthermore, even if there were snipers, It does not seem prudent to eliminate snipers by indiscriminately firing into a crowd of students. And so, the situation seems evident.
