This telegram was written at time of anti-Chinese sentiment in Seattle and surrounding areas -- approximately 1885-1886. This is a transcript of a telegram sent from Watson C. Squire, Washington Territory Governor, to Secretary of War W.C. Endicott. Squire gives a list of towns in Washington Territory and whether Chinese residents have been removed from them. He also notes that rioting has continued despite President Cleveland's proclamation, which declared martial law.
