Photograph was edited for publication purposesPhotograph caption dated March 3, 1965 reads "Louis Stephen Lowe, 20, sailor on the heavy tanker Cimarron, talks to his lawyer, Francis Smith of San Fernando, right, yesterday at his arraignment on charges of grand theft of 1,400 pounds of dynamite. Bail was reduced from $10,000 to $5,500." The article partially reads "The dynamite theft coincided with a death threat against the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. received by the Valley Times. As a result, King was guarded heavily during his four day stay in the Southland." Lowe was arraigned in Van Nuys Municipal Court.
